Principal’s Message

Hello PLES Families,

It’s a busy time here at Porters Lake Elementary School, and we wanted to share a few big ideas for the week ahead:

• PD Day – Wednesday, April 29: There will be no school for students on this day.

• Spring weather reminder: With spring comes mud! Having a change of clothes and a pair of indoor shoes at school is very helpful.

• Water bottles: Please remember to send your child to school each day with a water bottle. We no longer providing disposable cups from the office.

• Lunch‑time clubs and activities: Did you know that many of our teachers volunteer their own time at lunch to run clubs such as Art Club, Chess Club, Baseball Club, Intramurals, and PLTV (our weekly student video announcements)? We also have an Origami Club run by our Schools Plus CYCP worker. We truly appreciate the extra opportunities our staff provide for students.

• Bingo Night: A big thank you to our PTO for organizing a very successful Bingo Night. We had a great turnout and raised funds to support the school. Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and join us.

• Red Dress Day – May 5  Our school will be recognizing Red Dress Day, a Canada‑wide day of awareness and remembrance for Indigenous women, girls, and Two‑Spirit people who are missing.  Learning will be age‑appropriate and focused on empathy, care, and respect. Younger students will explore these ideas, while older students will learn about the symbolic meaning of red dresses and the importance of community care. There will be an assembly for P-2 and gr 3-6 with activities in the classroom.   Families are welcome to continue conversations at home in ways that feel right for your child. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a great week.
