Hey PLES Families,

This is a BIG week at Porters Lake Elementary. We've made changes to our school's configuration with the addition of a new teacher and classroom. A separate email with more details was sent on Sunday and posted on our website. We have been working to carefully reorganize our students, set up a new classroom, and change our schedules. This week, we will be working with our families and students to put these changes into place. We know change can be hard in the moment, but in the long run, it will be beneficial. We’ll need to work together to make this successful.

This Week's Schedule

Here's a quick look at some key events happening this week:

  • Monday, [Sept 22]: Our school lunch program starts this week. Please send us your feedback on how we're doing!
  • Tuesday, [Sept 23]: It's Picture Day!
  • Thursday, [Sept 25]: Class switches for students begin today.
  • Friday, [Sept 26]: Wear Orange Today in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day.

Important Dates to Remember

We've compiled a list of important dates for your calendar:

  • Sept 29: PD Day - No school for students
  • Sept 30: Truth and Reconciliation Day - No school
  • Oct 10: Picture retakes in the afternoon
  • Oct 13: Thanksgiving - No school
  • Oct 24: Conference Day - No school for students
  • Nov 21: Assessment Day - No school for students

Outdoor Changes

To improve safety and supervision, we've made some changes to our outdoor routine:

  • All students are now eating and going outside at the same time, which provides more adult supervision.
  • We have added orange tape in the woods and bushes to visually show our boundaries.
  • Students in grades 4-6 are now using the main doors for entry in the morning, after recess, and after lunch, which provides more supervision and quicker entry into the school.
  • All students are welcome to play on the field.

We have been working incredibly hard to make this a successful year for everyone. We appreciate your partnership as we all work together to support our students.

Take care,

John Fry
