Hello PLES Families,
We’re heading into a fun and festive week as Halloween approaches! On Friday afternoon, we’ll be hosting a Costume Parade for students. A friendly reminder: masks are welcome, but please avoid any costumes with weapons. Teachers may also be reaching out with details about classroom-specific activities or celebrations.
As we prepare for Halloween, we encourage families to review some helpful trick-or-treating safety tips provided by the RCMP. You can find them here: RCMP Halloween Safety Tips https://rcmp.ca/en/bc/safety-tips/seasonal-tips/halloween-safety-tips
On a more serious note, we experienced some vandalism on school grounds last week. Our 4 of our soccer nets were moved off the field Tuesday night and left in the tall grass near the fences. We’re grateful for the quick response from HRM, which allowed us to return to regular field use the same day. The incident has been reported to the RCMP, and we appreciate your continued support in keeping our school safe and welcoming for all.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable week ahead!
Take Care,
Mr. John Fry
Principal, PLES

Head Lice in Schools:
We are reminding parents about head lice as it is a common time for them to spread. Parents should regularly check their children's heads for lice and nits, and notify the school if any are found. To help prevent the spread, it is recommended to have children keep long hair tied back and avoid sharing items like hats, combs, and scarves.
Actions to take at home
- Check regularly: Make it a routine to check your child's hair for lice or nits.
- Treat promptly: If you find lice, treat them and inform the school.
- Prevent spreading: Remind children not to share personal items that touch the head, such as hats, brushes, and scarves.
- Tie back hair: Keep long hair tied back in a braid or ponytail.
From the School
- No "no-nit" policies: Keep in mind that current guidance does not require a child with lice to stay home from school, as long as they begin treatment. A child who has been treated should return to school.
