October 6–10 | Week 2 Update
Hello PLES Families,

Communication is key to working together effectively. In our school region, staff should respond to messages, phone calls, and emails within 2 business days. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize thoughtful responses. If you have an urgent matter, please call the main office directly.

Grade 6 Provincial Assessments

This week, our Grade 6 students begin the Provincial Assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics. These assessments will take place over the next two weeks and serve as a check-in on the curriculum covered so far. We wish all our students the very best!

Halloween Howl – Volunteers Needed!

Our Halloween Howl is scheduled for October 30, and we’re looking for volunteers to help organize and run this exciting event. If you're interested, please email us at ples@hrce.ca.

Hot Lunch Program

We’ve noticed many students coming to the office for second servings. Please check with your child to see if they’d like a second entrée added to their lunch order.

Snacks & Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings a water bottle each day. We do have small cups available if needed, but a reusable bottle is best.

Toys at School

Just a reminder: toys brought to school are at your own risk. With many students and transitions throughout the day, toys can be lost or broken, which can disrupt learning.

Pick-Up & Drop-Off Guidelines

  • Visitor Check-In: All visitors must stop at the main office upon entering the building.
  • Student & Item Assistance: Our staff are happy to help guide students and deliver any dropped-off items.
  • End-of-Day Pick-Up (1:45–2:10 PM): This is a busy time. To help us manage dismissals smoothly:
    • Arrange pick-ups in advance.
    • If picking up early, please arrive before 1:45 PM.

Weather Preparedness

Students go outside in various weather conditions, including light rain and mist. Please send a change of clothes and ensure your child is dressed appropriately. We will remain indoors during heavy or prolonged rain.

O Canada in Schools

In September, the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development introduced a new policy regarding the playing of O Canada in schools. In alignment with this policy, we now play the national anthem at the start of each school day.
You can read the full policy here https://www.ednet.ns.ca/docs/nationalantheminschoolspolicyenfinal.pdf . If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school office.

Have a great week!
Mr. Fry
