Principal’s Message
Hello PLES Families,
Last week was full of excitement with our Halloween Howl and Halloween celebrations! It was a great success. A big thank you to our amazing PTO volunteers for organizing and running such a fantastic event, and to the staff and students who helped with setup and volunteering. We’re still tallying the results, but we expect to raise over $2000, which will go directly toward supporting student learning.
A reminder that 1:50–2:00 PM is a very busy time at the school. During this window, we are coordinating the dismissal of over 300 students to buses, after-school programs, and family pick-ups. While we understand that last-minute changes can happen, we kindly ask that students are not picked up unexpectedly during this time. This helps us ensure all students are accounted for and safely dismissed.
Have a great week,
Mr. Fry
Reporting Absences and Lates
To help us maintain accurate attendance records and ensure student safety, please report absences in advance whenever possible:
- Call our toll-free number: 1-833-582-6940
- Use the SchoolMessenger link in the PowerSchool Parent Portal
- Use the SchoolMessenger app
Note: Students can only be marked as Absent with Notification (AWN) — not late. If your child will arrive late, they will be marked late once they arrive at school. Even if you call ahead, we cannot record a late arrival until the student is physically in the building.
Remembrance Day Assembly – Friday, November 7 at 12:30 PM
Families are warmly invited to attend our Remembrance Day Assembly. Students are encouraged to wear uniforms from Scouts, Guides, or Cadets. We especially welcome veterans and current members of the Armed Forces, RCMP, and Fire Department.
We are preparing a slideshow to honour family and friends who have served or are currently serving. If you would like to contribute, please send photos to Meghan.Doucette@hrce.ca by Monday, November 4. Include the child’s name, their relation to the service member, and the service member’s name and title.
November 8 – Indigenous Veterans Day
Indigenous Veterans Day honours the sacrifices and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Recognizing this day in schools provides students with the opportunity to learn about the often-overlooked histories and experiences of Indigenous veterans. This commemoration promotes respect, reconciliation, and a more inclusive understanding of Canadian history.
